Magge Gagliardi (Class of 2012), who serves as scenic designer for the Hartford Children's Theatre, was recently tapped by a Broadway producer to create a limited edition print portraying the cast members of the Broadway show Leap of Faith.
The direction was for a caricature look (the show's venue, St. James Theatre in Times Square, is adjacent to Sardi's).
The assignment took place over a whirlwind weekend: Magge sketched during a Saturday preview of the show, where she met the cast. Then she raced home to finalize her ideas and work out the final sketch. After approval on Sunday, she completed the work and printed a run of 40 before finally handing it off to one of the show's production assistants, who arrived at her home to transport the package.
The show officially opened on Thursday, when the print was distributed as an opening night gift to cast and crew, including composer Alan Menken, and the stars of the show, Raúl Esparza, Jessica Phillips, Leslie Odom, Jr., and Kendra Kassebaum. Liza Minelli was also in attendance.
