Ryan Maguire's (Class of 2012) HAS MFA Thesis project explored raising social awareness through illustration, so it was fitting that Boston ad agency Small Army asked Ryan to illustrate their Be Bold, Be Bald! 2012 national campaign (poster, left, and billboard, below) to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer.
This year, Be Bold, Be Bald! is reaching out to artists, designers, illustrators, and photographers to lend pencil, paintbrush or mouse to the cause and apply their ideas of beauty to a bald cap. Artist's creations (and links to their websites) will be shared on the campaign's social media networks to help artists share their talents while helping the campaign raise money for the cause.
Worn by thousands of participants for one day each year, the bald cap shows solidarity with cancer fighters who may not have a say in losing their hair. Be Bold, Be Bald! embraces the beauty of baldness by encouraging people to wear a bald cap on November 2, 2012, while raising money for the fight against cancer.
Submissions will be considered for a contest to print select designs on a cap or poster to be sold on the campaign website, with proceeds going to cancer research.
Submissions should be emailed as high-resolution 300dpi RGB jpgs with the subject line Be BOLD Be BALD to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Artwork is due by Oct. 26, 2012.
